There is no option to pick and maintain a single color. There is a LED light display on the front panel that can either rotate though a standard color display or can be set to change colors on the beat. The speaker also has two side handles so you can easily pick it up and carry if desired. The speaker has an extendable handle as well as two rear mounted wheels which let you pull the speaker behind you like a piece of luggage. The Pathfinder weighs just under 30 pounds with dimensions of 18 x 18 x 22 inches so it is not too large and is relatively easy to move. You are unable to link more than two speakers. You are also able to use the “Link” button to link two different Ion speakers together to create a wall of sound. The bass can be further amplified by pressing the BOOM button which, in addition to deepening the bass, increases the volume and activates a front panel LED light show. The sound of your music can be “tuned” by using the EQ button to adjust the bass and treble. The speaker has a built in radio with eight available preset buttons. You cannot play music through the USB connection. There is are USB ports on the speaker but they only function to charge external devices.

The speaker can play music from a Bluetooth connected device or from any device that is plugged into the speaker by an aux cord. You can control the speaker from the front panel or control the speaker from your phone after connecting via Bluetooth and using the Ion app. The Pathfinder 280 is a medium/large sized speaker and radio that is weather resistant for outdoor use.
